Artists Inspired Blog Circle | Thicker Than Water
This month's blog theme is red... I think you all can figure out why. Being that we don't really celebrate good ole Valentine's day at our house, I got to thinking about what red meant to me. I don't know why, but the phrase "blood is thicker than water" kept coming to mind. That started me on a search to find where the quote came from and what it's original meaning was. Interestingly enough, I scoured the interwebs, and no one really knows where it came from. There's some leanings that it comes from a biblical phrase, "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." But after doing a little more scouring, that's not the case either. There's no true origination of the phrase. Why am I telling you all of this?
Because when it comes down to it, your family is your family. Whether they're blood, friends that are like a family, married in... Whatever. You choose who you love as your family. That choice, THAT'S what makes your connection thicker than water. You can choose to nurture and deepen relationships and turn them into family.
“Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten" ― Lilo and Stitch
In this month, we get really focused on romantic love when we should just be focused on love. Reach out, nurture and deepen the relationships around you.
If the family were a fruit, it would be an orange, a circle of sections, held together but separable — each segment distinct. - Letty Cottin Pogrebin
So this month, I encourage you to look around, find your tribe and hold them close. They are the people that will hold you together, lift you up, and pick you up if you fall.
They are your family.
